Suspect arrested in killing of Tusker in Karuwalagaswewa

Police in Karuwalagaswewa have arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of a Tusker in the area. The body of the tusker was found yesterday (29) lying with a gunshot wound near the Thabbowa Tank.

A post-mortem conducted by the veterinarian of the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot to the liver and internal bleeding caused as a result. A bullet was also extracted from the animal's body. 

The tusker is estimated to be about 18 years of age and he possessed two tusks about 4 feet in length. It is reported that the tusker had not been often seen in the area. 

The suspect is due to be produced before the Puttalam Magistrate's Court.
