President Maithripala Sirisena has said that he will hold talks with the relevant authorities to consider the possibility of establishing a Pradeshiya Sabha for the Sainthamaruthu area.
The President made this remarks while responding to a request put forward by the people of Sainthamaruthu during an inspection tour around the area today (May 08).
During his visit, President Sirisena had met with the youth in the area and had urged them to act against terrorism and discharge their services towards the country.
He had pointed out that terrorism was not a problem which is exclusive to Sri Lanka and instead it is being faced by other countries as well. Mr. Sirisena had also pledged that he would fulfill his duties as President by eliminating terrorism from the country.
Addressing a group of state officials in the area, he observed that the country's defence sector is being uplifted as a result of certain restructuring mechanisms which are currently underway.
On the same lines, he also pointed out that it was the duty of state officials to assist the people in developing trust and awareness during the process of returning to normalcy in the aftermath of the recent terror attacks.
While commenting on the controversial Batticaloa Campus, the President had said that the educational facility would be brought under the purview of the Higher Education Ministry. He added that a final decision with regard to the courses at the campus would also be taken in due course.
The President who was accompanied by several high ranking officials of the security forces and ministers had also visited the safe house in Sainthamaruthu in which 15 people including some terrorists had died recently by committing suicide.
