Water cannons and tear gas were used to disperse protesting harbour workers who gathered at Colombo Fort. Protestors were against handing over of the eastern jetty of the Colombo harbour to an Indian company .
Protesters began there march from the entry point of the Colombo Harbour. The tear gas and cannons were fired when the crowds reached the presidential secretariat.
The final rites of veteran broadcaster, writer, and lyricist Nirmala de Alwis will be held today at Peradeniya.
