The annual Kelaniya Perahera pegentry commenced last night 19th January, with patronage by the President Gotabhaya Rajapakse, placing the relic on the Mangala Rajaya of the temple.
Durutu Perahera is one historical Buddhist heritage events conducted annually in January and the procession included the patronage and offerings by Minsters Chamal Rajapaksa and Presanna Ranatunga.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa. was also prsent.
Ven. Dr. Kollupitikye Mahinda Sangarakkitha, Chief Incumbent of the Kelaniya Temple officiated the ceremony with the Chairman of the Dayaka Sabha, Dr. Saman Weerasinghe with a large gathering for the ceremony.
