Thousands get new passports before Jan 1

The Department of Immigration was flooded with hundreds of passport applications today as the fees have been increased within effect from January 1, keeping up with the Budget proposal.

The applications were on a long queue from the department which is located in the second floor lining up to the ground floor. The government informed in the parliament recently that since the cost of printing of passports increased, it has decided to increase one day service of passports from Rs 7500 to Rs 10,000 from January.

Meanwhile the application fee for dual citizenship from Rs 250,000 to Rs 300,000 per application and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) visa fee to USD 20 per application.
