Three arrested while trying to sail to New Zealand

Three persons who were allegedly attempting to sail illegally to New Zealand have been arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy from Udappuwa.

The three suspects were taken into custody this morning by navy personnel while waiting at Udappuwa Beach. They were later handed over to police. 

All three suspects are 21 years of age and are residents of the area. 

There are also reports that several others escaped during the raid conducted by the navy following reports that a group of suspicious persons were loitering at Udappuwa Beach.

Udappuwa Police are investigating.
