Three medical officers are set to face a court trial today (Jul 24) over the death of a child who had been receiving treatment at the Batticaloa General Hospital.
Police officers had commenced inquiries after a post-mortem examination had shown that the child had died after being injected with the wrong type of blood upon admission to the hospital.
Two nursing officers had then been produced before the Magistrate's court.
However, Batticaloa Chief Magistrate A.C. Rizwan yesterday instructed the police to arrest the director of the hospital, the Blood Bank's officer at the hospital and the doctor in charge of the ward where the child had been hospitalised.
The child, a resident of Chenkalady, had been admitted for treatment due to head injuries after falling from a lorry before passing away on March 1.
