A 40-year-old Indian national and two Sri Lankans aged 40 and 45 from Colombo and Kuliyapitiya, were detained at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning while trying to smuggle out foreign currency amounting to Rs 48 million, Sri Lanka Customs said.
The suspects were trying to board a flight to Singapore when they were detained.
The three suspects were apprehended at the BIA's Departure Terminal. The seized currency notes include 153, 250 Euros, 52, 950 US Dollars and 18, 500 Qatar Riyals.
Further investigations are ongoing.
