Acting IGP SM Wickramasinghe has handed over the investigation into the discovery of a suicide jacket and explosives from a house in Chavakachcheri to the Police's Terrorism Investigation Division (TID).
According to Police Headquarters, a team of TID officers under the supervision of a Senior DIG has now commenced a probe into the discovery.
Police yesterday recovered a suicide jacket, four side chargers, three parcels containing about 12 kilograms of TNT, two packets containing 100 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition and two battery packs used to detonate side chargers from a house located at Maravanpulo, Chavakachcheri, based on a tip-off.
The house owner, identified as a former LTTE cadre, had fled the area but police were able to arrest him in Kilinochchi later in the day.
