Tilak Marapana sworn in as new Foreign Minister

Development Assignments Minister Tilak Marapana, PC, has been sworn in as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs before President Maithripala Sirisena a short while ago, the President's Media Division (PMD) announced. He replaces Ravi Karunanayake, who resigned on August 10. 

Minister Marapana is a former Attorney General and has previously served as the Minister of Defence in the UNP Government in 2001 as well as Minister of Highways, Transport and Civil Aviation - a post he was appointed to after the death of Minister Gamini Atukorale, 

In 2015, he was appointed as the Minister of Law and Order in the current Government, but resigned following allegations that he was in a position to interfere in the ongoing investigations regarding the Avant Garde Company. 

In May, this year, he was again appointed to Cabinet as Minister of Development Assignments.
