The Tamil National Alliance in a condolence message at the demise of Ven Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera said that the late Thera was a true friend of the Tamil people who fully understood their aspirations and was willing to accommodate those within the Sri Lankan polity “He was one who transcended the ethnic, religious and all other divides and truly worked for the well being of all the peoples of our country. He gave leadership to the moral voice of the country for the last couple of years and all communities in our land accepted that leadership. The change that took place in January this year would not have been possible without him. He continued to speak up for the passage of the 19th amendment and was willing to commence another mass struggle for it,” the TNA said in a statement.
