The Treasury has approved the release of Rs 7 billion requested by the Election Commission to hold the Parliamentary Election, State Minister of Development Banking and Loan Schemes Shehan Semasinghe stated.
The funds necessary for the election have been released through the Consolidated Fund which the President is allowed to take moneys for a period of three months after an election is declared.
Meanwhile, the Treasury has also approved the release of a further Rs 1.2 billion that the EC has to pay to cover arrears from the 2019 presidential election. The money will be paid in installments.
