The Ministry of Education has made available 12 leading schools in Colombo to temporarily house tri-forces personnel returning from leave.
Education Ministry sources said the schools were made available on a request made from the ministry by Defence Secretary Maj.Gen (Rtd.) Kamal Gunaratne.
The Defence Secretary had said his ministry was requesting some schools to temporarily house returning tri forces personnel as there was a possibility that the camps may not be able to accommodate all personnel. He had assured that the schools would be handed back as soon as they are able to build more units to house all personnel.
All armed forces personnel who are on leave have been ordered to report to their respective camps immediately. An island-wide curfew has been declared today to enable them to return.
