Two suspects have been arrested with over 900 kilograms of beedi leaves by Navy personnel yesterday (Mar 20).
Navy personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command had made the seizure 05 nautical miles off Thalaimannar.
The contraband weighed 912.46 kilograms, Navy said adding that the suspects had attempted to smuggle the narcotic from India.
Two suspects identified as a 32 and 38-year old residents of Mannar were taken into custody along with a dinghy that was used to smuggle the narcotic.
The suspects along with the seizure have been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigations.
