The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has requested Sri Lankans to observe a two-minute silence from 9:25 - 9:27 am today (Dec 26) in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the 2004 Tsunami.
The tsunami claimed the lives of more than 30,000 individuals and left more than 50,00 missing after an earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter Scale struck Indonesia's Sumatra Islands.
Memorial events have been organised across all 25 districts in the country, the DMC said.
DMC Deputy Director Pradeep Kodippili noted that early warning systems have been installed in the country in a bid to minimise the impact of such disasters.
