UGC issues safety guideline for students ahead of commencement of sessions

In a bid to ensure maximum safety of students and staff the Universty Grants Commission has released guidelines ahead of the commencement of sessions at state universities and higher educational institutes.

Chairman of the University Grants Commission Prof. Mohan De Silva in a release said precise dates of commencement of each university will be given adequate  publicity in the near future.

Further the release included the following guidelines:

  1. On returning to university students must cooperate with security staff of the university by prviding their student ID card for verification, physical body check and checking of all bags and belongings.
  2. It is the repsonisbility of the student look after the ID card issued to the student in orde to prevent any misuse.
  3. Students are required to have the identity card with them while at university
  4. All vehicles - cars, threewheelers, scooters, motorbikes and cycles will be subject to security checks before being permitted to enter the university.
  5. No student is permitted to enter or stay within the premises with a face cover
  6. Excluding the face cover, rest of the dress code including the head, ears and the neck shall be considered as a personal decision.
  7. Only registered students and persons authorised by the vice chancelloer are allowed into or to stay in the hostels. Visitors of students or any other person is strictly prohibited from entering the hostels
  8. Bags, backpacks are strictly prohibited in lecture halls, examination hall and in the laboratories.
  9. Students are strongly advised to minimise carrying bags and backpacks around the university premises and at the canteens

Further the statement said that all Vice Chancellors have already been issued with the necessary instructions. and therefore  students were advised to strictly abide the instructions of the Vice chancellor to ensure safety in the light of the current security situation.
