The United Nations has issued a statement regarding the phone call conversation between the Secretary - General and President Maithripala Sirisena on November 01.
The statement notes that the Secretary General had informed the President that he was watching the developments in Sri Lanka with concern while also offering to help by facilitating a dialogue between all parties.
The Secretary General had also urged the President to convene parliament and allow the latter to vote as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, President Sirisena taking to his official twitter handle commented on the phone call conversation yesterday. The tweet is as follows :
I had a very successful telephone conversation with UN Secretary General H.E. António Guterres last evening. I assured him that the appointment of the new Prime Minister has been done in keeping with the Constitution of Sri Lanka.
