The Engineering students of South Eastern University today took the streets to urge the government to take immediate measures to relocate the faculty due to lack of facilities in a remote part of the country.
The students staged the protest in front of the University Grant Commission (UGC) demanding permanent solution for their issues. The protest erupted a heavy traffic in Ward Place, Town Hall.
They said that the faculty was setuped in Oluvil, Ampara by the previous government despite the fact the location was not suitable for engineering studies and without proper feasible studies.
T. Tharshananth, an engineering student who took part in the protest said most of the lecturers and demonstrators left the university therefore they find it difficult to continue their studies. Currently the students have been boycotting the lectures in the university.
“ We are worried about the quality of the engineering education being offered to us by the university when compared to the rest of engineering faculties in the country,” he said.
