The United National Party (UNP) has formally asked President Maithripala Sirisena in writing to remove Justice and Buddhasasana Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe from his post.
This follows a decision taken earlier at the UNP Working Committee meeting and at the party's Parliamentary Group meeting.
It has also been reported that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has asked President Maithripala Sirisena to remove Rajapakshe from his ministerial post.
However, exactly who will replace Rajapakshe in his ministerial post is still uncertain.
