The United National Party's (UNP) Working Committee is to convene tomorrow (29) at Sirikotha where the suspensions issued on those who signed nominations to contest from other parties will be discussed, the party's General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated.
Mr Kariyawasam added that all those who have had their party membership suspended and who had been issued show course notices by the party have been invited to attend tomorrow's meeting.
He claimed that some former MPs who had sought nominations from other parties have reached out to them expressing regret and requesting an opportunity to rejoin the party. "We are prepared to accommodate them if they show genuine regret, but those who actively worked to undermine the party risk explusion from the Working Committee and the UNP itself," he warned.
The UNP General Secretary added that the party will also discuss current political developments and the parliamentary general election at tomorrow's meeting.
