The Police will seek a one-week detention order to question four suspects who were arrested over a drug racket during the last 24 hours, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
The spokesman, in a statement, said a 35-year old individual and a 41-year old zookeeper had been arrested in Kawdana, Dehiwala, with 100 grams of heroin each.
He added that 400 grams of heroin stored by the zookeeper in his locker at the Dehiwala Zoo had been recovered by Special Task Force (STF) officers who carried out the arrest.
Upon questioning both suspects, two persons had been arrested in a car in Katubedda, with 400 grams and 68 grams of heroin respectively.
The driver, aged 41, had been nabbed with cash worth Rs 2 million, while the passenger had been arrested with a modern pistol, five 9mm bullets, and a magazine.
The vehicle has been taken under police custody while all four suspects have been handed over to the Organised Crimes Preventive Division, the police spokesman noted.
He said that two of them will be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court while the other suspects would be produced before the Moratuwa Magistrate's court.
