Update: Wildlife officer dies in scuffle with poachers

Assistant Range Offficer of the Department of Wildlife P M Jagath Senevirathna attached to the Hambanthota wildlife office died due to gun shot injuries received in a scuffle that ensued when he attempted to arrest a poacher in the Walsapugala area in Ambalanthota this morning (05th).

Acting on information received, officers from the  department of wildlife raided the location in Walsapugala where poachers had killed a deer. It is said that the deceased Officer tried to apprehend one of the  poachers who tried to escape but received fatal injuries from his own weapon in the course of the scuffle.
