The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has won in the Hambantota District and managed to secure 4 seats, according to the final district results released a short while ago. The UPFA has received 196,980 votes (53.84%) while the UNP with 130,433 votes (35.65%) and secured 2 seats in the district. The JVP has polled 36,527 votes and secured one seat in the district. Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
