The United States (US) has assured President Maithripala Sirisena of providing a grant of US$480 million for development projects, the government news portal reported.
According to the report Brock Bierman, the Chief Operation Officer of the US state-owned Millenium Challenge Cooperation (MCC) called on President Sirisena in New York yesterday.
The grant is expected to be utilized for several development projects that includes transport infrastructure development, road development, bus modernization, control of traffic congestion and traffic management, the report said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Megapolis Development, Champika Ranawaka, who was also present at the meeting said that a pilot project on transport regularization would be implemented in Kandy along with the support of the MCC. He also said that the bus services will have to be regularized for improving facilities to urban commuters.
