Voting for the presidential election got underway at 7 am today (Nov 16) and will go on until 5 pm, to elect the 7th Executive President of the country.
A total of 35 candidates are vying for the top post in the country - a record high unlike previous elections, resulting in a 2.2 feet long ballot paper being used for the election.
The election is expected to cost more than Rs 7.5 billion and would also see the usage of special cardboard and plastic ballot boxes due to the high number of candidates.
Eligible voters will be able to cast their vote across 12,845 voting centres against the backdrop of special security arrangements involving the Police, tri-forces, and other security units.
The total number of Police officers to be on duty at voting centres will amount to 25,712.
