Shyamali Perera, wife of former DIG Vass Gunawardena, was quoted as saying that she will appeal against the ruling of the Mohammed Shiyam murder trial, local media reported.
Vass Gunawardena, his son Ravindu Gunawardena and four others were sentenced to death for murder on Friday. However, Perera said that certain people wanted to take revenge from her husband.
She also pointed out that Shiyam's father had insisted on the innocence of her husband. Shiyam's father did say that Vass Gunawardena was not responsible for the murder. However, he later withdrew his statement.
