Former Minister and leader of the National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa gave a statement at the CID on the issue regarding his wife’s passport, local media reported. The Colombo Crimes Division on May 15 informed court that the passport and National Identity Card of Weerawansa's wife Shashi was forged. Shashi Weerawansa was arrested in February over charges of obtaining a diplomatic passport in an illegal manner, after providing forged documents. She was later released on bail.

A Sri Lankan man was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi airport for attempting to smuggle wildlife out of the country after three ball pythons were found hidden in his underwear, the Bangkok post reported.
