MP Wimal Weerawansa addressing a UPFA press briefing at the parliamentary complex earlier today (Nov 27) said that the security personnel who provided security to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on Nov 16 were not legitimate police officers.
"Generally, there is a selected group of police personnel employed to escort the Speaker into the Chamber. However, we were informed that the escort which was given to the Speaker on that day (Nov 16) consisted individuals who were not legitimate policemen" MP Weerawansa said.
He further added that his party urges the relevant institutions to investigate into this matter.
