The Colombo High Court today (Oct 25) ordered that the examination of statements in the case concerning the Welikada Prisons riot in 2012 will take place on October 30.
During today’s hearing, the defendants raised objections towards certain photographs produced by the prosecution as evidence, stating that they were not granted permission to examine the equipment used to capture the photographs.
Accordingly, court permitted the defendants to carry out the examination before the witness hearing.
Former Police Inspector Neomal Rangajeewa, former Prisons Superintendent Emil Ranjan Lamahewa and prisons intelligence officer Indika Sampath have been named as the accused in the case.
The Welikada prison riots had resulted in the death of 27 inmates.
