A woman was killed and six others sustained serious injuries when a van collided head-on with a lorry at Palaviya, Thalgaskanda in Puttalam this morning (25).
The deceased was a 62-year-old resident of Puttalam. The van had been returning to Puttalam with a group of pilgrims who had taken part in a Church Service in Chilaw when the incident occurred.
The van had sustained severe damage in the accident while damage to the lorry had been only slight. Police said the van had been flung onto middle of the road by the impact.
The lorry driver has been arrested and Puttalam Police are investigating.
