Due to the COVID situation most persons have restricted their movements in the outstations as well even though the areas are not under curfew, officials said
They said limited persons were calling over for work at government offices while shops and commercial establishments too have limited their operations.
"Even if shops open up, they close well ahead of the usual times. Some of the shops which were kept open until 8 pm now close up by about 5 pm and that too they with limited business", an officer in Matale said.
He said even the buses carried limited number of persons despite some of the private bus operators keeping off the roads due to the losses they are suffering.
He said as a result, many of the vegetable cultivators in the Matale area too have been affected and are unable to sell their produce.
