The Department of National Zoological Gardens received two Himalayan Bears, two hyenas and three pairs of Meerkats today from Capital Zoo of the United Arab Emirates under the animal exchange program.
A team of zoo officials including the Chief Veterinary Surgeon of the Dehiwala Zoo, Dr. Dushanthi Dammika Dassanayake retrieved the animals at Bandaranaike International Airport today morning.
The two Bears and slender-tailed MeerKats would be brought to Dehiwala zoo while the two pairs of spotted hyenas would be sent to the Ridyagama Safari Park at Hambantota.
All the new animals would be subject to a month-long quarantine period. The animals would be displayed for the public after the completion of the quarantine period.
