Sri Lanka-Palestine Solidarity Committee welcomes Gaza ceasefire
The Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine has expressed hope that the current ceasefire in the Gaza Strip will lead to a lasting solution to the decades-old Palestinian question.
In a statement, the group said:
The Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine (SLCSP) welcomed with great happiness and relief the ceasefire in Gaza after 476 days of Israel's genocidal campaign in which more than 46,000 Palestinians, including approximately 20,000 children, were killed.
The SLCSP also expresses its hope that the truce, though fragile and beset with uncertainties, will end the long-suffering of the Palestinian people and lead towards a permanent solution to the more than century-old settler colonial issue that began with the disastrous Balfour Declaration.
However, the SLCSP notes that the end of the war does not mean the end of the conflict.
The SLCSP hopes against hope that the ceasefire that came into force on Sunday will provide the international community yet another opportunity to redouble its efforts to bring about a lasting and just solution to the crisis and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, bringing peace to the wider region.
