Amidst rumours of shifting sides to represent the United States of America, national limited overs cricketer Shehan Jayasuriya has informed his desire to quit representing Sri Lanka officially to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
"National player Shehan Jayasuriya, who represented Sri Lanka in both ODIs and T20i formats have informed SLC, that he will no longer be available for the selection of domestic or international cricket tournaments with immediate effect," SLC, issuing an official statement a short while ago today (8), revealed.
"Jayasuriya has taken this decision, as he has decided to relocate to United States of America with his family to settle in that country," added the statement.
As a spinning all-rounder Jayasuriya has represented Sri Lanka at 12 One Day Internationals (ODI) and 18 Twenty20 Internationals.
He represented Police SC and Moors SC in the domestic circuit and has appeared in 80 first class matches accumulating 5431 runs with an average of 42.
Jayasuriya represented Galle Gladiators in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League.
"Whilst announcing his decision, he thanked Sri Lanka Cricket for the opportunities provided to him, during his time as a national player. SLC whilst thanking Jayasuriya for the services he has rendered to Sri Lanka cricket as a player, take this opportunity to wish him the very best in his future endeavors," the SLC statement further stated.
