Amila Sanath Kumara and B.G.L. Anuradhi ran ahead of the rest in the Men’s and Women’s marathon event held in conjunction with the 41st National Sports Festival in Bulathsinhala on Saturday (22). Amila Sanath Kumara of Southern Province came out on top in the men’s category with a timing of 2.26.03 seconds followed by T.P.G.P. Alahakoon of Central Province (2.31.51) and in third came S.D. Indrajith of Western Province (2.32.31). In the women’s category B.G.L. Anuradhi of Central Province reached the tape first with a timing of 2.56.26 seconds and in second was Manjula Kumarasinghe of Western Province (2.57.52) followed by V. Krishanthi of Central Province (3.05). The marathon events were conducted by the Ministry of Sports and sponsored by Nestle Nestomalt. The event which was flagged off opposite the Bulathsinhala Divisional Secretariat office run through a course covering Pimbura, Agalawatte, Matugama town and back to Bulathsinhala.
