Seasoned marathoner Anuradha Indrajith Cooray has been officially named as the captain of the Sri Lanka team for the upcoming Rio Olympics 2016.
Cooray (38) has represented Sri Lanka at 2004 Athens Olympics and 2012 London Olympics and this will be his third appearance for the country in the world's most celebrated sporting event.
The national record holder in Men's Marathon with a timing of 2:13.47, Cooray achieved this feat at the London Marathons in 2015 to qualify for the Rio Olympics.
Other athletes in the contingent Women's Marathon runner Niluka Rajasekara, Men's Javelin Thrower Sumedha Ranasinghe, swimmers Matthew Abeysekara and Kimiko Raheem, Badminton player Niluka Karunaratne, Weightlifter Sudesh Peiris, Rifle Shooter Mangala Samarakoon and Judo athlete Chaminda Dharmawardene.
The Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, Maxwell de Silva will accompany the contingent as Chef-de-Mission.
