Two athletes Darshana Rajapaksa and Chamal Kumarasiri reached the next stage of the respective events after the first day heats of the IAAF World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia on Wednesday (15). Hurdler Rajapaksa and triple jumper Kumarasiri were the two Sri Lankan athletes who advanced to the next level of their respective events. Asian Youth Athletics Championship gold medallist Yamani Dulanjali had to bow down from her event, the girls’ 400 metres hurdles. Rajapaksa of St. Sylvester’s College qualified for the boys’ 400metres hurdles semi-finals after clocking 53.60 seconds. He finished third in the sixth heat of the event. Kumarasiri of D. S. Senanayake College in Meerigama qualified for the boys’ triple jump final after clearing 15.29 metres. In the girls’ 400 metres hurdles Dulanjali finished fourth with a timing of 1:02.07 seconds.
