Underdogs Sri Lanka made a huge upset when they beat favourites Pakistan by 4-2 to clinch the 13th West Asia Baseball Cup held in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Pakistan are ranked 24 in the world while Sri Lanka is placed 52 in the list.
The win made Sri Lanka the better team of the competition where hosts Pakistan, Iran, Iraq and Nepal also competed.
In the preliminary round matches Sri Lanka beat Iran by 22-0, while overcoming Nepal by 11-0 in the semi-final game.
Iran beat Nepal 10-6 to win the third place playoff and the Bronze medal.
The Sri Lanka team, led by Akalanka Ranasinghe, also comprised Sameera Sampath Ratnayake, Iresh Kosala, Nelanka Karunaratne, Ruwan Kumara, Asanka Lakmal Peiris, U. M. Lasantha, M.U. Sanjeewa, Charith Krishna Hapuarachchi, Sanjeewa Udayasiri Jayaratne, Aruna Shantha, Sandun Madushanka, Tharidu Madumal, Saliya Anuradha Wijesinghe, Sahan Avishka Dias, Subas Isara Gunasiri and Naween Anuradha.
The officials of the team were Malindu Hewage (Head Coach), Hideki Koyama (Coach), Kazuya Yagi (Asst. Coach), Manoj Fernando (Head of Delegate), Dinesh Perera (Manager), Ajith Kumara Indika (Physiotherapist), Priyantha Peiris (Umpire) and Subash Gunasinghe (Selection Committee Chairman).
