Big Match: Ananda beat Nalanda by 38 runs to win 42nd Maroons One Dayer

Ananda College beat traditional rivals Nalanda College by 38 runs to win the 42nd Battle of the Maroons annual One Day encounter played at SSC on Sunday (29).

Ananda put into bat posted 271 with Kavishka Anjula hitting an unbeaten 100 and restricted Nalanda to 233 with eight deliveries remaining.

Anjula went on to grab the player-of-the-match award after hitting his unbeaten century off just 78 deliveries inclusive of eight fours and five sixes. 

His team mate Sammu Ashan made 54 while Asel Sigera and Dinuka Gimhana hit identical knocks of 30 each. 

For Nalanda Lakshitha Rasanjana and Nimnaka Ratnayake hit identical knocks of 71 each while featuring in a partnership of 134 for the second wicket. 

Rasanjana was named the best batsman of the match, while Ananda’s Asel Sigera, who took three wickets, became the best bowler. 

Nalanda’s Kasun Sandaruwan earned the award for the best fielder. 

With the win Ananda lead the series tally with 26 and Sunday’s win comes as the sixth consecutive win for them since 2010, with the game in 2014 not played.
