Carrom: CFSL conduct maiden workshop in South

As Carrom becomes a National Sport, and with the objective of uplifting it islandwide to promote maximum participation at the forthcoming National Sports Festival (NSF), the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL), in its awareness programme at provincial level, organised its maiden Workshop for sports officers, sports coaches and Carrom players on June 17 at the Galle Provincial Sports Ministry Auditorium. 

This Workshop on Carrom Rules & Regulations has been organised under the guidance of the Southern Province (SP) Sports Minister and its Ministry Secretary. 

The Sports Ministry has included 8 new Sports for the 42nd NSF, with Carrom as one of them. 

To promote and popularise Carrom in the SP and ensure its success at the 42nd NSF, a large number of coaches and officers from over 200 Training Centres in the Galle, Matara and Hambantota Districts participated in this Workshop. 

Theoretical and practical awareness and training on the rules of Carrom game were conducted throughout the day, with lectures on its history and how it has evolved to to its present status as a National Sport, were delivered by CFSLVice President, Susantha Fernando and its General Secretary Thumula Naotunna. CFSL Assistant Treasurer & Media Coordinator Sunanda Kodagoda and veteran Carrom coach Jagath Suraweera also participated in this Workshop. 

In order to promote wider participation in Carrom islandwide, the Sports Ministry directed the establishment of 3 District Associations in the Galle, Matara and Hambantota Districts, affiliated to the CFSL, to coincide with the launch of the abovementioned Workshop. 

At the Evaluation Review Meeting held at the end of the Workshop, under the patronage of SP Sports Ministry Secretary and Assistant Secretary, Chinthaka S. Lokuhetti and Ms B.G.N.D. Sandaseeli respectively, District Sports Officers and Sports Coaches were presented with books on Carrom rules and special participating Certificates by the CFSL, with its officials in attendance.
