The International Cricket Council announced today (27) that it has inducted Sri Lanka's ace spinner Muttiah Muralitharan into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
Along with Muralitharan, Karen Rolton, Arthur Morris and George Lohmann will be inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame later this year.
Record-breaking off-spinner Muralitharan will be the first Sri Lankan cricketer to be inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame alongside two-time ICC Women’s World Cup winner and former Australia Women’s captain Karen Rolton, member of Australia's invincibles under the great Don Bradman and George Lohmann, an English fast bowler who took 100 wickets in just 16 Test matches during the 19th century.
The four iconic cricketers have been voted by the ICC Cricket Hall of Famers and the members of the media.
The news comes in the midst when Sri Lanka Cricket, headed by Thilanga Sumathipala branded Muttiah Muralitharan a traitor for playing a 10-day role as a spin bowling consultant with the visiting Australian team.
Muralitharan, whose career spanned from 1993 to 2011 finished off on a high becoming the only player to capture 800 Test wickets, which is a world record.
He also has a tally of 534 One Day International wickets.
