Cricket: Jayasinghe’s 81 put Sri Lanka ahead over South Africa in Emerging game

The Sri Lanka Emerging XI guided by a big knock of 81 from Angelo Jayasinghe was able to eke out a six-run lead over their South African counterparts on the third day of their cricket match at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium on Saturday (8). . Conditions were good for batting and players from both teams capitalised on that.   Sadeera Samarawickrema and Minod Bhanuka got runs at the top.   Skipper Rumesh Bhuddika narrowly missed out a fifty.   However yesterday’s honours were taken by the former Maris Stella College player, the elegant Angelo Jayasinghe.   Coming in at seven, Jayasinghe set out his stall and struck 15 fours in his top score of 81.   Four others made useful contributions in the Sri Lankan innings.   Opening bowlers Eshepo Morike and Corbin Bosch took the bowling honours, bagging two wickets apiece.   First innings centurion David White made 26 second time around, while fellow opener Aiden Markram was unbeaten on 64.   Left-arm spinner Amila Aponso took two wickets to go with his four in the first innings.   The four-day match ends on Sunday (9).   South Africa Emerging XI 375 (David White 137, Clyde Fortuin 92, Heinrich Klaasen 40, Zubay Hamza 35, Diego Rosier 28, Amila Aponso 4 for 108, Binura Fernando 3 for 82, Kasun Madushanka 2 for 58) and 110 for 2 wickets (David White 26, Aiden Markram 64n.o, Amila Aponso 2 for 33)   Sri Lanka Emerging XI 381 (Minod Bhanuka 67, Sadeera Samarawickrema 63, Kusal Mendis 23, Lahiru Milantha 22, Rumesh Bhuddika 47, Lahiru Madusanka 38, Angelo Jayasinghe 81, Kasun Madusanka 10n.o, Eshepo Morike 3 for 70, Corbin Bosch 3 for 81, George Minde 2 for 108)
