Nondescript Cricket Club (NCC) prevailed to overcome Colombo Cricket Club (CCC) in a high-scoring thriller to clinch the Sri Lanka Cricket Major Twenty20 Championship by 6 runs in the final played at the P. Sara Oval today (8).
Put into bat first, NCC posted 183-7 with Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Mahela Udawatte adding 126 runs for the third wicket, while CCC fell short by 6 runs after being bowled out for 177 with three deliveries remaining.
CCC needed 12 runs in the final over with one wicket remaining, and they executed well with a boundary in the first delivery followed by a single in the next.
But NCC's star bolwer of the day, paceman Chamila Karunaratne was able to claim the final wicket sealing his side a deserving win.
"We have had three close games like today's final, and we managed to claim them all. Today was our fourth and decisive and as the skipper I'm proud to lead such a enthusiastic bunch of players," NCC skipper Angelo Perera said after the win.
