Cricket: West Indies beat Sri Lanka in second Unofficial Test at Pallekele

West Indies 'A' beat Sri Lanka 'A' by 333 runs in the second 4-day Unofficial Test which ended a short while ago at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy today (14).

Put into bat first West Indies 'A' declared after reaching 509-9, soon after their anchor batsman Vishaul Singh was bowled out by spinner Charith Asalanka for 161. 

Singh faced 306 deliveries, hitting 16 fours, and strengthened the West Indies 'A' with the help of Jahmar Hamilton, who was dismissed for 99 off 141 balls, inclusive of 15 fours. 

Opener Rajendra Chandrika hit 84 off 148 deliveries inclusive of nine boundaries while Asalanka captured four wickets. 

Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne, Anuk Fernando, Lahiru Kumara and Jeffrey Vandersay picked a wicket each. 

In reply Sri Lanka 'A' made 245 runs, still trailing 264 runs from the first innings.

Karunaratne made 68 runs off 129 deliveries, hitting 12 boundaries and middle-order batsman Niroshan Dickwella top scored with 88 off 143 deliveries inclusive of nine fours. 

Allrounder Asela Gunaratne hit 46 runs off 92 balls with three fours and a six.

Spinner Rahkeem Cornwall picked six wickets while Keon Joseph claimed two scalps. 

Kemar Roach and Delorn Johnson picked a wicket each. 

West Indies 'A' declared their second innings at 216-3, setting Sri Lanka 'A' a target of 481 runs to achieve on a turning wicket.

Chadrika continued his form with a fluent knock of 68 runs off 110 balls, which included five fours and a six.

Jahmar Hamilton remained unbeaten on 56, facing just 30 deliveries after hitting five fours and four sixes while skipper Shimron Brooks faced 63 deliveries to make 53 not out inclusive of three fours and two sixes. 

Lahiru Kumara, Charith Asalanka and Jeffrey Vandersay picked a wicket each.

Sri Lanka 'A' could not resist the strong bowling attack of West Indies 'A' as they were skittled out for 147 with Vandersay top scoring 47 off 70 balls, inclusive of six fours and three sixes.   

Delorn Johnson, Kemar Roach, Keon Joseph and Gudakesh Motie claimed two wickets each while Cornwall picked a wicket. 

The three-match Unofficial Test Series is tied with both teams winning a game each.

The decisive third and final match will be played from October 18 to 21 at Dambulla.
