Football: Six teams for President’s Cup Tournament

The City Football League President’s Cup football championship which took off on Saturday (11) will go on till April 9 at the City League Football Complex, Slave Island. 

The contest is being held for the second successive year. 

The second match of the tournament will take place today (Sunday) when Colombo FC clash with Moragasmulla. 

A sum of Rs. 1.5 Million is estimated to conduct the tournament. 

The entire tournament is being sponsored by City Football League President Ramanathan Puvanandiran. 

The competition is being conducted by the City Football League. Six teams affiliated to the City Football League will take part in the contest. 

They are: Group A- Renown SC, Java Lane SC, Cooray SC. Group B -Colombo FC, Moragasmulla SC and Saunders SC. 

First round games will be held from March 11 to March 26. 

The semi-finals will be on April 1 and 2. The finals will take place on April 9. 

All matches will take place at the City Football League grounds. 

The winners will receive a cash award of Rs.One Lakh Fifty Thousand. 

The runners-up will be in line for Rs. One Lakh. 

Special awards will be made to the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament and Best Goalkeeper. 

All teams taking part in the contest will be given cash of Rs.50,000 each. 

All teams will also be given football jerseys and a ball. 

Last year Renown SC and Colombo emerged joint champions at the competition.
 
First Round Match Schedule: 
March 12 - Colombo FC vs Moragasmulla SC; March 18 - Saunders SC vs Moragasmulla SC; March 19 - Java Lane SC vs Cooray SC; March 25 - Renown SC vs Cooray SC; March 26 - Colombo FC vs Saunders SC.
