Football: South Asia-Japan U-16 Tournament from March11 to 14 in Colombo

The South Asia-Japan Under-16 Football Tournament is organised by Japan Football Association along with Football Federation of Sri Lanka for the first time in Sri Lanka. 

The four countries participating in this tournament are Nepal, Bhutan, Japan and Sri Lanka. 

The Japan Football Association initiated this programme and proposed FFSL to conduct this programme in Sri Lanka under the slogan 'Sport for Tomorrow' programme which was designed by the Japanese Government. 

The intentions of the Japanese government to carry out the 'Sport for Tomorrow' programme is to add value to sports and assist Olympics and Paralympics Movements. 

The tournament is scheduled to be held from March 11 to 14 in Sri Lanka at the Race Course grounds, Colombo. 

Four teams will play one match in accordance with the match schedule based on the League system. 

The points system adhered will be, three points (3) for a win, one point (1) for a draw and zero (0) point for a loss. 

On March 11 Sri Lanka will take on Japan. 

On March 12 Sri Lanka will meet Bhutan. 

On March 14 Sri Lanka take on Nepal. 

The Technical Department of FFSL has conducted selections for the purpose of forming the Sri Lankan Under-16 team last month. 

The Japan Football Association proposed FFSL to organise this tournament as a preparation of the upcoming SAFF Under 16 Championship and AFC Championship. 

During this Tournament, organisers have planned to conduct seminars to be conducted by the coaches of participating countries to share their knowledge and experience of youth development in their countries.
