The third ' Golden Awards' ceremony organised by Matale Old Thomians' Hockey Association (MOTHA) to pay tribute to ten past Hockey players of national and International fame produced from Matale, will be held at Edward Park Hockey ground in Matale on Saturday (24).
The ten recipients of this year's Golden Awards include six Matale old Thomians, two old Vijayans and one each from Zahira Matale and BMS Matale.
They have been nominated by the MOTHA in appreciation of their commitment and dedication to promote and up lift the game of hockey in Matale at school, district and National level in the capacity of players, coaches and selectors and also for the great prestige they have brought to the cradle of Sri Lanka hockey - Matale in particular and country in general.
This year's ten Golden Awards recipients are as follows:
1. Parakrama Kulathunga - National player (Old Thomian)
2. M. Manoharan - National player (Old Thomian)
3. Lesly Abesinghe - National player (Old Thomian)
4. Ajith De Silva - National player (Old Thomian)
5. G.W.J Premachandra - National player (Old Thomian)
6. T.D.K.S. Perera - National player and National Umpire (Old Thomian)
7. Thilak Wimalasinghe - Former Sri Lanka National Hockey captain and National Coach (Old Vijayan)
8. Major B.G.R. Fernando - National player (Old Vijayan)
9. Ms. Manel Wijekoon Wimalarathna - National player in Hockey and Netball (Old Girl of BMS)
10. Ziyaudeen Ahamed - National player (Old Zahirian)
