Ind in SL: Herath spins Sri Lanka to emphatic win at Galle

Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath turned tables to claim seven wickets and help Sri Lanka grab an emphatic 63-run win against India in the first Test which ended at Galle a short while ago today (15).   Chasing a moderate total of 176, the Indians lost wickets at regular intervals and could not gather momentum resuming from their overnight score of 23 for 1.   Herath went wicketless in the first innings but his seven in the second essay was the key to Sri Lanka’s win, which came with a day and two sessions early.   Off-spinner Tharindu Kaushal claimed the remaining three wickets to pocket a match-bag of eight scalps.   Earlier on the third day Sri Lanka was bowled out for 367 runs in their second innings as Dinesh Chandimal made an unbeaten 162, leaving India to chase 176 runs for victory.   Resuming from their overnight total of 5 for 2, Sri Lanka moved on and were badly placed again at 95 for 5 until man-of-the-match Chandimal came up with a heroic knock of 162 not out off 169 deliveries, inclusive of 19 fours and four sixes.   Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin completed a match bag of ten wickets.   India made 375 runs in the first innings to take a healthy lead of 188 runs after restricting Sri Lanka for 183.   Sri Lanka   First innings 183 all out (49.4) (Lahiru Thirimanne 13, Angelo Mathews 64, Dinesh Chandimal 59, Rangana Herath 23, Ravichandran Ashwin 6/46, Amit Mishra 2/21)   Second innings 367 all out (82.2) (Kumar Sangakkara 40, Angelo Mathews 39, Dinesh Candimal 162n.o, Lahiru Thirimanne 44, Jehan Mubarak 49, Ravichandran Ashwin 4/114, Amit Mishra 3/61)   India   First innings 375 all out (117.4) (Shikhar Dhawan 134, Virat Kohli 103, Wriddhiman Saha 60, Tharindu Kaushal 5/134, Nuwan Pradeep 3/98)   Second innings 112 all out (49.5) (Shikhar Dhawan 28, Ajinkya Rahane 36, Amit Mishra 15, Rangana Herath 7/48, Tharindu Kaushal 3/47)
