Harinda Fonseka won the bronze medal at the World Wado Kai Karate Do Tournament held in Nagoya, Japan. He won the medal competing in the under84kg Men’s Kumite event where Japan won the gold and Northern Ireland claimed the silver medal. France claimed the bronze medal alongside Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka was one of the 50 countries that took part in the Wado Kai World Cup held in Japan on August 15 and 16 in Nagoya. The event is held every five years. Sri Lanka Wado Kai Federation was started in 1989 under the guidance of Sensei Jayasiri P. Perera, who is its chief representative and president. Four members -- Tarik Jayasuriya (2nd Dan), Harinda Fonseka (1st Dan), Themiya Gaminitilaka (1st Dan), Jathurshan Pradeepkumar (1st Dan) -- who participated in the above event also passed the International Black Belt Examination in Japan.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
