Curtains came down of the 24th Singer MCA Premier League 2016 when MAS Unichela led by former national player Chamara Silva recaptured the Singer-MCA Premier League title after one year.
Earlier MAS Unichela emerged champs won the Premier League in 2013-14 and 2014-15 and lost to MAS Active in 2015-16 but came back strongly to regain their lost prestige in 2016-17 season.
MAS Unichela won the title in 2014 and 2015 with Chamara Silva leading the side on both occasions.
MAS Active, the 2016 winner ended up holding the ‘Wooden Spoon’ failing to win a single game.
MAS Unichela on their way to the title won five matches on the trot, beating HNB by 156 runs, MAS Active by 10 runs, Sampath Bank by 26 runs, Textured Jersey by 1 wicket and Commercial Credit by 6 wickets.
But they lost their next game to John Keells by 2 wickets and finished the campaign, beating DIMO by 4 wickets.
The 4 bonus points gained by MAS Unichela, for beating, HNB, Commercial Credit, Textured Jersey and DIMO helped them to tip John Keells into second place.
